Sahasra Semiconductors Opens India's 13th Semiconductor Unit at Bhiwadi, Rajasthan
Sahasra Semiconductors inaugurated an ATMP/OSAT facility in Bhiwadi, Rajasthan on May 15, 2026 — the first semiconductor manufacturing unit established under the SPECS scheme rather than ISM, and the first semiconductor facility in Rajasthan.
The Bhiwadi facility is notable for two reasons. First, it is India's 13th semiconductor unit — bringing the total to 13 projects operational or under development as of May 2026. Second, it was established under SPECS (Scheme for Promotion of Manufacturing of Electronic Components and Semiconductors) rather than ISM — marking the first semiconductor facility funded outside the flagship ISM framework. Bhiwadi is an established electronics manufacturing cluster in the Delhi-NCR industrial belt, making it a natural extension of the region's supply chain infrastructure.
The SPECS-funded Bhiwadi facility signals something important: semiconductor manufacturing in India is no longer exclusively an ISM story. State-level and alternative-scheme approvals are creating facilities in new geographies. For Punjab — which has not yet attracted an ISM or SPECS semiconductor facility despite having SCL and CDIL — the Bhiwadi precedent shows that SPECS offers an alternative pathway that does not require central ISM approval. Punjab's IBDP 2026 incentives could stack with SPECS support for the right investor.
